1. What type of dance do you perform? As a dance team member you are expected to be well- rounded in various types of dance. We do a combination of pom, hip-hop and jazz routines. For our National competition routine we need to perform all 3 types of dance plus include many technical skills.
2. Where can I go to improve my skills? We suggest that everyone trying out has dance training. There are many dance studios in the area where you can take classes to improve your skills. If you are a current Rutgers Student there are classes offered through recreation that you can also take.
3. What technique do you need to have and how important are the technical skills? All of the team members are expected to have technical training. We are looking for everyone to have at the minimum the following skills: triple pirouette, fuete turns, switch leap, side leap (leap in second), toe-touch jump, axle.
4. Where does the Rutgers Dance Team compete? We currently participate in the NDA National Collegiate Championship held every April in Daytona Beach, FL. For more information you can visit their website www.nationalspirit.com.
5. Does everyone compete when they are on the team? We do not guarantee that every member on the team will compete.
6. Can I have more information on tryouts? Please read the information posted on the website. At this time we do not have any further information to send out.
7. Do returning members have to re-tryout? Everyone has to try-out for the team every year, even members who have been on the team for 3 years.
